Sensex Today | Stock Market Live: Indian stock market benchmarks extended early gains on Friday, with the Sensex jumping 601 points, or 0.84 percent, to 72,194 and the Nifty rising 197 points, or 0.88 percent, to 22,428 around 9:44 am. Market breadth was positive, with 1,827 shares advancing against 1,375 declines. IT led sectoral gains with a 2.86 percent surge, while private banks, Bank Nifty and media rose more than 1 percent each. Midcaps gained nearly 1 percent, although smallcaps slipped marginally. Energy, oil & gas and pharma traded lower, while India VIX fell 4.06 percent.
