Mumbai-based alternative investment firm ValueQuest Investment Advisors has appointed Ashish Gupta as Senior Managing Director, Group Strategy & Head of Investments. The move strengthens the firm’s leadership as it expands across public and private markets.
Gupta brings nearly three decades of experience in equity research, investment management and capital markets. He has deep expertise in Indian equities, financials and macroeconomics spanning global and regional markets. He most recently served as Chief Investment Officer at Axis Mutual Fund, a role he took up in March 2023 after leaving Credit Suisse, where he was Head of India Equity Research. At Credit Suisse, he tracked the banking sector across 13 Asian economies and was among the earliest to flag the asset-quality cycle in Indian banks through his influential “House of Debt” series of reports.
He stepped down from Axis AMC earlier this year to pursue other professional interests. Axis elevated long-time executive R Sivakumar as his successor.
In his new role at ValueQuest, Gupta will help shape the firm’s strategic direction, drive its next phase of growth, and lead investment strategy and research capabilities.
ValueQuest, founded in 2010 by Ravi Dharamshi and Sameer Shah, manages capital for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices and institutions through PMS and AIF strategies focused on public and private equity. The firm emphasises an investor-first philosophy, early identification of megatrends, and high-conviction bets on companies at key inflexion points. It currently manages assets of around Rs 32,600 crore (approximately $3.43 billion) with a 35-member investment team and has delivered high-teen returns since inception.
